I spoke with several local parents who absolutely love the Falcon Discovery Academy, an enrichment program that replaces traditional specials with discovery blocks focused on literacy and wellness.
The district also integrates the Leader In Me framework to cultivate self-confidence and problem-solving abilities in young learners.
While the academic support is robust, out-of-district families do need to undergo the full re-evaluation process every academic year to remain enrolled.
However, the sheer breadth of resources and the seamless transition from partnered local childcare centers make it a highly attractive option.
2. John S. Armstrong Elementary School

The school features an expansive media center with a heavy emphasis on instrumental music study. We think this provides incredible value for early childhood development.
They even go a step further for gifted students by offering an interdisciplinary Explorations Course and an accelerated daily mathematics curriculum.
A notable downside is that the school strictly enforces its residency policies, preventing non-resident students from enrolling. Families who move outside the district boundaries mid-year also face immediate enrollment consequences.
3. William B. Travis Vanguard and Academy for the Academically Talented and Gifted

Parents looking for accelerated instruction across advanced humanities and computer science will find an incredibly diverse core curriculum at William B. Travis Vanguard and Academy.
They focus on maths, science, music, and theater, heavily supporting creative and academic development.
In fact, the school requires students in specific math and science courses to represent them at rigorous problem-solving competitions on designated weekends.
When we visited and spoke to the principal, we found out that middle school students here get a free tour of prospective high schools in Dallas, showing how the administration supports the transition to secondary education.
But like any school, it’s not perfect. The major drawback is the rigid one-strike assessment policy, which forbids any retests or second chances for the gifted identification exams.
Additionally, the automated enrollment system instantly revokes acceptance offers if families miss the strict confirmation deadline.
4. The Hockaday School

But before you consider this route over other local preschools in Dallas, note that the admissions office doesn’t maintain a multi-year wait pool, forcing unplaced applicants to completely restart the process the following year.
The administration also refuses to accept any conscience-based vaccination exemptions.
Despite these strict enrollment policies, we believe the incredibly low student-to-teacher ratio and the comprehensive after-school care program provide a highly supportive atmosphere for young learners.
5. St. Mark’s School of Texas

Primary education also includes specialized dramatic arts instruction focusing on collaboration and public speaking.
But be aware that the school enforces highly inflexible birth date cut-offs for first-grade entry that can’t be bypassed under any circumstances.
They also have a highly competitive acceptance rate and admit a very small fraction of their annual applicant pool.
