- High-quality education

- Provides laptops for students
- Free education for qualified students
Cons

- Facilities are starting to wear down
Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School is a magnet school that offers an amazing quality of education for free. It’s consistently one of the top-performing schools not only in Dallas but in Texas as a whole.
You know what you’re getting with magnet schools, and that’s education at the highest level. Irma Lerma is no different, as it’s considered by many the best high school in Dallas.
Besides the high quality of education, students are also provided a laptop to help aid their studies. This is thanks to its Student 1-1 Laptop Program, which aims to provide one laptop for each student.
In addition, the price tag is quite cheap as well. And by cheap, we mean free for as long as your children qualify!
Parents of students here have also noted how their children often say their schoolmates are sweet and welcoming — certainly a great sign if you want your children to focus on their academics.
One thing we noticed about it, though, is the lack of extracurricular activities. While it does offer a variety of clubs, most of them are pretty generic.
The lack of extracurriculars shouldn’t even be a factor for magnet schools, however. Irma Lerma has proved itself to be one of the best schools in the state thanks to the education it provides.

- Provides tablets for students
Cons
- Hard to get into
The School for the Talented and Gifted, or TAG, is a magnet school straight out of the dreams of young students. It provides the best education in Dallas, as well as amazing and unique school projects
Seeing as how it’s a magnet school, you can’t question the quality of education it provides on the table. Most of the students to come out of this institution have been accepted into the top-performing universities in the country.
The extracurricular activities and projects are all unique and allow students to find something they’ll truly enjoy. Some of these include ballroom dancing, bird watching, musicals, learning about the biometrics of athletes, and more.
It also can’t be overstated how welcoming the students are regardless of differences. This attribute should put new students and their parent’s minds at ease before starting their new lives at TAG.
Additionally, the school provides one tablet for each student thanks to its Student 1-1 Tablet Program. This should help students who can’t financially afford a laptop or a tablet.
The only downside to TAG is how hard it is to get into. It only takes in the absolute best students, so it’s quite an accomplishment to get in.
However, once your children get in, they should have a blueprint for a successful life laid out for them.

Cons

Marvin E. Robinson School of Business and Management is an award-winning high school that produces the cream of the crop. This school and its staff pride themselves as a way for students to kickstart their dreams and ambitions for the future.
It can’t be overstated how superb its quality of education is. It consistently produces college-ready students, and you can’t say that about most high schools.
Producing these students isn’t a fluke, however, as they have advanced coursework to help them prepare for college.
The students are merely a product of an environment where they’re cared for and accounted for by the faculty.
Parents have also noted that the teachers in the school all care. It’s easy to verbally say you want the best for your students, but to go out of your way and actually help them is a different story.
A nice little bonus when enrolling at Marvin E. Robinson is the array of clubs to choose from. Among all the clubs it offers, there’s surely one for your children to join!
If we’re being critical of it though, we feel as though some of the facilities can be improved. But, it offers at-home learning, so it shouldn’t be an issue with some of the students that choose to go this route.
Marvin E. Robinson is an excellent high school even among the quality of choices in Dallas. With an eye towards the future, it molds and shapes students for college.

Pros
- Magnet school
- Different clubs
- Welcoming students
- Engaging community
- High-quality curriculum
Cons
- Limited extra-curricular activities
- Hard to get into
As its name suggests, Science and Engineering Magnet School is a top-performing school that veers its students to science and engineering tracks. It’s notorious for being tough to get into but churns out high-quality students.
Being a magnet school, it only takes in the best high school pupils. This makes it a competitive school that only values education in its highest form.
Because of the quality of students, the educational curriculum is appropriate and of equal quality. It even once ranked as one of the top 20 schools in the nation.
And while a school filled with only the brightest students might seem competitive, the students here are actually quite welcoming. They healthily embrace the “competition”.
The support from the faculty and staff is notable as well. They also pride themselves on being part of SEM, so they do their best to make sure the students they produce are ready for college.
One thing one might dislike about SEM is how hard it is to get in. As we said, it only takes in the best students, and the truth is not everyone is capable of getting accepted here.
Overall, the experience and growth your child will accumulate here will be unmatched.
