Pros

  • Challenging but rewarding academic standards
  • Offers lots of AP and honors classes
  • Tons of various clubs and athletics available for every student
  • School campus and facilities are safe and secured 24/7

Cons

  • Lacking in diversity in both the school staff and students

The Episcopal School of Dallas (ESD) is able to balance both the academic and extracurricular performance of its students.

After all, all work and no play isn’t the best way to go, resulting in overworked students. So we’re glad this school is able to avoid that.

Considered a college preparatory school, it is able to provide a rigorous curriculum that prepares its students well for the colleges or universities of their choice.

This is evident in its perfect 100% graduation rate and significantly high SAT average. You’ll definitely be pleased just as we are with its capability to produce top-notch students.

As we mentioned earlier, it also offers tons of extracurricular opportunities that students could definitely find interest in.

We believe it’s important that any student, as much as they’re academically inclined, is able to enjoy the experience that extracurricular activities such as sports and clubs can provide.

It’s a unique experience of academic life that shouldn’t be taken for granted for the sake of just being brainy. It’s great that students of ESD are given this balance of work and play.

The annual tuition fee isn’t exactly the most pleasant thing to see, but this is to be expected from a private school of this caliber.

Plus, its students are safe and well-guarded by great security around the clock.

Though, we think they can definitely improve on being more culturally diverse in both staff and students.

We live in a society that’s more open now than ever. Being able to accept, experience, and understand various cultures outside of our own is tantamount to avoiding ignorance.

And ignorance of living in a bubble should be the last thing any student should possess when preparing for the vast open world outside of school.

2. Alcuin School

Pros

  • Combines Montessori and IB Education in its curricula
  • Significantly cheaper tuition fees
  • Entire school community is more culturally diverse
  • Smaller class sizes allow for more personal interactions

Cons

  • Extracurricular activities need some more work

Alcuin School is one of the private schools in Dallas that prove you don’t need to spend almost twice the amount in tuition fees to get quality education.

Being founded more than 50 years ago, it blends Montessorian philosophy with International Baccalaureate standards. This unique combination alone is already quite a big selling point.

We think there are already assets to be gained when a student is exposed to Montessori education early on.

It allows them to be part of a system that emphasizes independence and choice. This is great for learning the unique strengths and weaknesses of each student.

This isn’t to say that there would be a lack of guidance, of course. The faculty and staff exercise utmost care about every student’s personal growth in a reflective and organized manner.

And because of this, we’d like to say that Alcuin already has a solid foundation for becoming a college preparatory school. And it doesn’t stop there.

We’ve mentioned its IB standards prior, which propels the Montessori program of the school even further. Having an IB Program allows the academic community to be culturally diverse.

In Alcuin’s unique case, it allows it to foster students that are both academically excellent and globally competitive. And all of this while having the least expensive set of tuition fees among all of the schools on our list.

There’s only one caveat to Alcuin, in our opinion. The extracurricular activities aren’t exactly as great as the academic prowess.

Sure, it’s not exactly bad and is slightly improving as the schoolyears go by. But you still need to take this into consideration if your child really likes to play sports or has a lot of hobbies and interests.

3. Greenhill School

Pros

  • Campus is abundant with modern facilities for learning
  • Teaches students various important skills for college preparation
  • Challenging but rewarding coursework
  • Exercises more precautions that protect the students

Cons

  • Significantly more expensive tuition fees
  • Needs to promote more inclusivity

Equipped with an abundance of modern facilities, Greenhill School grants its students only the most premium educational resources for them to become topnotch in future endeavors.

From kindergarten all the way to 12th grade, Greenhill is able to maintain a student body that can proudly express its individuality and demonstrate academic excellence.

Considered one of the most prestigious schools in all of Dallas, we can say that it even feels like going to college, especially for the upper years.

With that, we think Greenhill is a very good preparatory school for college. You also don’t need to worry about your child’s safety because of its strict safety precautions and security.

Though it may not be one of the best-performing private schools in terms of its extracurricular activities, there’s still an adequate amount of opportunities for any interested student to join.

After all, it’s not always about winning. A student simply having the opportunity to experience and enjoy lots of activities outside the classroom already makes school life worthwhile.

Greenhill sounds like a pretty great package already, assuming you can also afford its premium tuition fees. We personally think it’s pretty steep, but rewarding nonetheless.

The general culture around the school community is good. But sometimes, the occasional close-mindedness of some people seeps in, especially in regards to politics.

We can say that its community is diverse, but the inclusivity part probably needs a little more work. Nonetheless, Greenhill’s faculty and staff are generally very supportive of the individuality of each student.

It’s just that the nature of its curriculum promotes very critical thinking. This probably leads some students astray with their ideals instead of being more inclusive and open-minded.

4. Dallas International School

Pros

  • Includes the IB program as part of its unique curriculum
  • Teachers attend to students more personally due to smaller class sizes
  • Trains students to be multilingual and multicultural
  • Arranges school trips to places like Canada and France (may vary due to pandemic)

Cons

  • School administration is sometimes disorganized

Being the only international private school in the Dallas area, Dallas International School (DIS) offers a prestigious international education and the chance to learn several languages in one unique package.

If you ever wanted your children to become polyglots while also being well-equipped academically, then this is the private school to send them to.

It mainly offers bilingual education with English and french, but also allows a third language to be taught.

Integrating the best of American education with the French national curriculum and the IB program, we think this is one of the best formulas for fostering globally competitive students.

Aside from the extra languages and academic excellence, students are generally exposed to a myriad of multicultural experiences this way.

Not only will DIS students receive the best of both American and international standards in education, but they will generally be more open-minded about the world around them — and we don’t mean just learning about the world inside the classroom.

We think it’s quite a special experience that DIS also makes trips to places such as Canada or France for even its lower grade students.

DIS is definitely in a league of its own when it comes to providing unique experiences. Though it may not have the best “after class” activities and facilities, it certainly provides one of the best “out of school” activities among other schools in Dallas.

The school’s administration could definitely use some work though. They do tend to get disorganized in more ways than one.

Whether they’re all over the place trying to plan the next school trip or just lacking attention to the details of their tasks is all a mystery.

Pros

  • Exceptionally good at college advising
  • Offers a great curriculum even at an early age
  • Campus is well-secured and filled with nice facilities
  • More involved in various community partnerships

Cons

  • Slightly more limited in athletics compared to other schools

The Oakridge School focuses its efforts on being an all-around private school that cares for each unique student that it caters to.

Whether you’re in need of a college preparatory school, or a private school to simply start the little one off, definitely consider Oakridge and its warm and welcoming community.

With an administration that is supportive and security personnel keeping a check on the campus at all times, Oakridge is off to a good start when it comes to a student’s typical life.

As the years go by, we’re glad to see that Oakridge constantly invests in its facilities with more modern buildings and features. Its campus is quite an aesthetic sight to see.

Going more specifically into the lives of Oakridge students, they are given many choices of AP classes and honors. It’s also nice that new kinds of classes are added every now and then.

Excelling in their studies and even in college someday is what Oakridge wants for its students at an early age, so this makes it a great candidate for a college preparatory school.

Leading in various activities is also another opportunity that it gives to its students, as it’s highly engaged in the greater community with its partnership with multiple organizations.

Performing is one of the many ways that an Oakridge student is able to discover and express his or her passion and interests.

Though Oakridge may not be top-tier in the athletics department, it’s nonetheless able to provide sentimental value to every extracurricular activity it does have to offer to its students.
