Pros

  • Specializes in pediatric ophthalmology
  • Comfortable and accessible office
  • Informative and prompt

Cons

  • Rushes through meetings
  • Expensive

If you’re looking for a pediatric ophthalmology specialist, you should consider seeing Dr. Zev Shulkin. While he hasn’t been practicing for as long as other providers on this list, his reputation and high customer ratings has won him a spot on our list of best ophthalmologists.

Dr. Zev is currently affiliated with several medical facilities in the city, including Medical City Dallas Hospital and William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital. While his clientele primarily consists of children, he also sees adult patients at his clinic now and then.

Many love him for his patience and impeccable bedside manners. However, what really hooked us is how fast he responds to patient concerns and questions.

It took him a little over five minutes to respond to our inquiry email—-something that has never happened to us before. So, it comforts us to know that, if we were ever in need of urgent assistance, we can rely on Dr. Zev anytime.

His office staff are some of the most charming people we’ve met, going to great lengths to ensure that we were comfortable during our visit. The office itself was cozy and peaceful, so it wasn’t that difficult to get ourselves settled in.

All good things aside, we did notice something a little unnerving about Dr. Zev. While he’s well-mannered and informative, he has a tendency to rush through conversations with his clients.

We saw him walk inside the examination room during our visit, and not two minutes later, he was back outside attending to another patient. A few of his previous clients have expressed dissatisfaction with the way he conducts some of his consultations.

Considering how expensive his services can be, we can see how this can be upsetting to some of his clients.

Pros

  • Decades of experience
  • Specializes in macular, vitrectomy, and retinal surgery
  • Straightforward and informative

Cons

  • Takes their time talking to patients

Dr. Choi has been with Retina Specialists since 2009; however, he’s been practicing way before he moved to Dallas. He specializes in macular, vitrectomy, and retinal surgery—he also has a special interest in diabetic retinopathy and complex retinal detachments.

For anyone looking for a professional to administer your diabetic eye exam, you should definitely consider calling Dr. Choi.

He’s popular for his straightforward nature and good bedside manners. His patients also appreciate the effort he puts into being as informative in his correspondence as possible.

If there’s anything about your diagnosis or treatment that you can’t understand, no need to feel shy about asking questions. You can contact Dr. Choi at his office via his landline anytime.

We appreciate how kind and attentive his office staff are. They truly reflect Dr. Choi’s dedication to helping his patients find the right treatments and solutions.

On top of that, we love how well-informed they are about Dr. Choi’s services and procedures. It shows that the company really took the time to train their employees—something all the best providers do to ensure high-quality services.

We can’t really say anything bad about Dr. Choi’s services. However, he does have a tendency to take his time when he’s talking to patients.

Although we understand that he’s just trying to do his job, his actions can inconvenience his other patients, especially those who only have a limited amount of time for a consultation.

Pros

  • 20 years of experience
  • Cozy and clean office
  • Budget-friendly

Cons

  • Rude office staff

With over 20 years of field experience, Dr. Sylvia Hargrave is a highly skilled ophthalmologist. She focuses on diagnosing and treating eye diseases such as detached retinas, glaucoma, and cataracts.

Talking to her is like a breath of fresh air. She doesn’t make you feel judged or rushed in any way, so you can ask her just about anything that you want.

Her clients appreciate how thorough she is during her consultations and examinations. We’ve heard that she goes above and beyond to explain complex conditions and procedures to her patients.

We love how cozy and clean it is in her office. The space is large enough for people to navigate without bumping into each other, even during busy hours.

Unfortunately, her office staff aren’t the most welcoming.

Several of her previous clients have informed us about their negative experiences with these workers. Based on our surveys, we’ve learned that some of the office staff are “rude” and “absent-minded” – a few things no company would want their office staff to be.

You can book an appointment with Dr. Sylvia via her landline or website. Her office is open from Monday to Friday.

Pros

  • Respected surgeon
  • Short wait time
  • Clean and inviting office

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Rushes consultations

Dr. Jeffrey Whitman is the President and Chief Surgeon of the Key-Whitman Eye Center. He’s had decades-worth of experience and is a respected surgeon in his field.

Many of his clients admire him for his attentiveness and informative nature. He does his best to answer all your questions in the short amount of time that he meets you.

Unfortunately, this sometimes leads to his patients feeling rushed during consultations. And while we understand that Dr. Whitman is just trying to make his office more efficient, it would do him good to slow things down a little during consultations.

We love how spacious Dr. Whitman’s clinic is. Regardless of how many people show up for a visit, it never feels too crowded or busy.

There are also plenty of parking spaces outside for patients who are driving to their appointments.

The office staff are all so friendly and accommodating. They’re also quite familiar with the services and procedures that Dr. Whitman offers, which we take as a sign of good training and preparation on their end.

Booking an appointment with Dr. Whitman is tricky as he’s almost always with a patient. However, if you book a week prior to your desired date, his staff could work it out.

Pros

  • Consultations aren’t rushed
  • Easy appointment scheduling
  • Attentive and informative

Cons

  • Long wait times
  • Rude staff

We admire Dr. Witherspoon for his apparent care and empathy toward his patients. He does his best to explain his procedures using non-complicated jargon; moreover, he doesn’t rush through his consultations with patients.

His focus and keenness to help are what attract so many clients – as well as ourselves – to his clinic. So, if you’re looking for an ophthalmologist that truly cares about his patients, you should consider working with Dr. Witherspoon.

Talking to him was comfortable and easy. We didn’t feel hurried or criticized, despite our many inquiries and requests for clarifications.

However, we should warn you that his office staff aren’t the most patient people around. We’ve received several complaints from previous clients saying how rude the office staff were to them.

As a care provider, making your clients feel comfortable and secure in your care should be your number one priority. Thus, in our opinion, Dr. Witherspoon should do a better job at screening his office staff.

We should also warn you that, due to the high demand for services, the wait time at Dr. Witherspoon’s clinic can take hours. If you’re running low on time, this might not be the best place to get services.
