  • Instruction: We opted for schools with programs that cover essential massage techniques, anatomy, and skills needed for certification.
  • Curriculum: We included institutions that involve students through interactive classes, hands-on training, and opportunities for real-client practice.
  • Experience: We reviewed the instructors’ qualifications and the years of industry and teaching experience for each program.
  • Reputation: We listed academies that received favorable student feedback and testimonials, as well as a high graduate success rate.

There was a time when it became my routine to visit a massage therapist once a week. You can’t blame me, though—it just feels so good to have your tired body rubbed by a masseuse.

The same habit made me consider starting a new career I could pursue alongside my full-time job. Though I was hesitant at first, my go-to therapist talked me into searching for the best massage schools in Dallas.

Check out the student-approved institutions that made my list!

They’re licensed and approved by the Texas Department of Licensing & Registration. This means they meet rigorous educational standards, ensuring you learn proper, safe techniques.

Their offerings include the minimum 500- and 570-hour courses, as well as a neuromuscular therapy certification program. These are done in small class sizes to allow the teachers to focus on each trainee.

Students we interviewed appreciated the opportunity to work alongside licensed massage therapists and instructors in the clinic.

However, some students reported that the school sometimes takes nearly a day to respond to emails.

We find that the interns do an awesome job with their training

“We have been going to massage Institute of North Texas for quite a few years. We find that the interns do an awesome job with their training. I had another very therapeutic massage with Jacob and he did not disappoint! He was very in tune to where my problem areas were and worked out many areas. The pricing is a great value! We are treating ourselves to several massages a month!”

Since 2012, Healing Hands Massage Institute has been helping aspiring therapists build meaningful careers. We discovered that they’re COMTA-accredited, which indicates that you’ll receive a high-quality education that meets national standards.

They have diverse massage therapy programs, from Texas 500- and 600-hour courses to an Associate of Applied Science in Massage Therapy (an associate’s degree). This makes them a strong option if you want to study beyond the state requirements.

Students, especially busy professionals, commend the school for offering both online lectures and in-person training.

The hybrid learning format allows trainees to manage their schedules with ease. That said, they may not be the ideal academy if you prefer fully face-to-face education.

But if you want to ace the licensure exam, their MBLEx-aligned curriculum will certainly help. Plus, their interest-free monthly payment plans enable you to focus more on your classes and training instead of worrying about tuition.

Pros

  • 10+ years in business
  • COMTA-accredited school
  • Hybrid learning format
  • Offers diverse massage therapy programs
  • MBLEx-aligned curriculum

Cons

The Ke Kino team does their best to guide their students so they can move confidently into a profession rooted in healing and purpose.

Their flagship offering is a comprehensive massage therapy program that covers a range of techniques, including pregnancy massage, chair massage, and trigger point and fascial therapy.

They provide hands-on learning by allowing you to work on your first client in the clinic under supervision. This prepares you to step immediately into a professional career after graduation.

Trainees seeking more real-world clinical experience thank the school for giving them the option to extend their internship by up to 50 hours.

But for us, what sets them apart is their post-graduation support program. This includes advanced training and board preparation to help you retain and build on what you’ve learned.

Still, no institution is perfect. There have been reports of the academy not answering calls.

Pros

  • Offers a single, comprehensive massage therapy program

The North Texas School of Swedish Massage was founded in 1994 with a mission to give students the opportunity to enjoy life while pursuing a career they love.

They offer 500- and 570-hour massage therapy programs that meet the minimum course-hour requirements set by the state of Texas. To provide individualized attention, they keep class sizes small so that you’re not simply a face in the crowd.

But what really caught our attention was their internship flexibility. You can set your internship schedule between 9 AM and 6 PM, Monday through Friday. This is especially convenient for working students.

The only drawback, according to some trainees, is that the school sometimes doesn’t respond to emails.

Pros

  • Over 3 decades in the industry
  • Offers 500- and 570-hour massage therapy programs
  • Small class sizes
  • Provides flexible internship scheduling options

Cons

  • Reports of not responding to emails

Hands On Approach has been delivering excellent massage therapy education since 1998. Their programs include 500- and 570-hour massage courses that meet the minimum required hours before you can take the licensure exam.

What wowed us was that their curriculum includes spa treatments—such as body wraps, salt glows, and facials—giving you a chance to find employment in salons.

Their inclusions even extend beyond services. Students we spoke to commended the academy for including books and class supplies in the tuition fee, something most institutions don’t do.

To help aspiring therapists, they provide a deferred payment plan that allows you to pay half the tuition while in school and settle the balance after you’ve been licensed for two years.

Our only concern involves reports of representatives speaking over students during phone calls.

Pros

  • Nearly 30 years in service
  • Offers 500- and 570-hour massage therapy programs
  • Curriculum includes spa treatments
  • Tuition is inclusive of books and class supplies
  • Provides a deferred payment plan

Cons

  • Reports of representatives speaking over students during phone calls

A great support system with all the help you could need

“It was a good massage. Lots of good hands on training. Evan was an amazing instructor who helped me come out so prepared as a new therapist. A great support system with all the help you could need. Prepares you to take your licensing exam!”

They were very kind, professional, and skilled

“Me and my mother received a massage today by a student. They were very kind, professional, and skilled. We both had a fantastic experience. Very relaxing experience. My mother had been suffering from generalized muscle pain before the massage and said she felt 90% better afterward. We will be returning. I highly recommend this establishment for your massage.”
