Best Retirement Homes in Dallas That Offer Luxurious Living after 65

  • Quality of Care - We prioritized homes that offer high-quality medical and personal care, ensuring residents' health and well-being are top-notch.
  • Staff Professionalism - Homes with professional, friendly, and attentive staff who create a warm and supportive environment for residents were prioritized.
  • Amenities - Retirement homes with a wide range of amenities such as fitness centers, swimming pools, spas, and recreational areas were given preference.
  • Value for Money - We looked at the cost of living in each home in relation to the services and amenities offered. Then, we chose those that provide good value for money.

My recent visit to see my grandparents, who just moved into a retirement home, had me bracing myself for a slightly depressing scene: bingo nights, old furniture, and piped-in muzak.

But my jaw hit the floor when I walked in—the place was modern and spacious, with a sparkling swimming pool, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and even a putting green!

The best part is that my grandparents were buzzing with life—they told me about weekly movie nights, excursions to local museums, and fun-themed dinners.

So, inspired by my grandparents’ newfound zest for life, I decided to dig into the best retirement homes Dallas has to offer. I scoured online reviews, talked to residents, and snuck a peek at a few menus, and went on cool virtual tours.

Finally, here’s the lowdown on the top picks. Hopefully, you can find a place for your loved ones that makes them feel just as happy as mine!

The Preston of the Park Cities in Dallas is a chic spot that helps residents live life to the fullest. Imagine days filled with meals prepared by world-class chefs, followed by a relaxing afternoon at the luxurious spa or a water aerobics class in the pool.

They even have a Watermark University where you can try painting, pottery, or a language class. Social butterflies will also love their events, from movie nights and themed dinners to camping trips or even skydiving!

We like that they have an on-site medical clinic with access to specialists, physical therapists, and even preventive health screenings. Plus, 24/7 concierge services take care of everything from housekeeping to dog walking.

However, be aware of a potential caveat. While independent living at The Preston seems top-notch, there have been reports concerning the quality of care on the memory care floor.

Pros

  • Gourmet dining
  • Has a spa and pool
  • Watermark University classes
  • Exciting calendar of activities
  • On-site medical clinic

The Preston at Park Cities is an amazing community

“The Preston at Park Cities is an amazing community if you’re looking to place a loved one in an assisted living or memory care. They have a very compassionate and friendly staff. Rhonda Battee, their Director of Nursing, is fantastic and does an amazing job with the team to ensure residents are well taken care of. Michaela is the memory care director for the community and she is wonderful as well. I would strongly recommend touring The Preston at Park Cities if you’re looking to place your loved one or perhaps looking for a senior community for yourself.”

Team members treat the residents like their own grandparents

“We choose Edgemere in 2007 for our parents and our Mother is still at Edgemere and loves living there. The team members treat the residents like their own grandparents and the management team is one of the best. The community has the best residents. Our Mom has made some of the best friends she has had. As an adult child, I appreciate the team members, managers and the work atmosphere and culture that is Edgemere.”

The Legacy Midtown Park in Dallas has roots dating back to the 1950s, and they have a long history of providing care for seniors of all faiths.

They boast a prime location in North Dallas, putting you close to shops, restaurants, cultural attractions, and the medical district. Residents can also choose from independent living, assisted living, and memory support.

Inside, the community promises an upscale atmosphere with chef-prepared meals, restaurant-style dining, and an on-site salon. There’s even an art studio and game room, as well as a fitness studio and aquatics center.

And that’s not all! The Legacy offers an impressive range of medical services, from wound care and on-site EKG and ultrasound to respiratory therapy and specialists.

While we’re impressed with these top-notch amenities, we’re not impressed with their staff who were said to be a tad condescending. This might be a dealbreaker for some.

“The Legacy Midtown Park is a 1st class community that is beautiful on the outside as well as the inside! Five Star Premier Residences of Dallas caters to independent living, assisted living, memory care, and even short-term stays. With communities across 28 states, they’re a familiar name in the senior living scene.

We like their “Lifestyle360,” which takes a holistic approach to wellness, from watercolor painting and poetry workshops to fitness classes and museum outings. They even offer specialized programs for residents with dementia or Parkinson’s.

So far so good, right? Well, there’s just one snag—some residents have mentioned encountering disrespectful or rude staff members.

This is obviously a big deal, and you’d want to be sure the caregiving environment feels warm and welcoming.

On the bright side, the apartments themselves sound lovely, with a variety of sizes to choose from. Plus, they offer handy amenities like room service, laundry, and concierge services, making life a little easier.

Pros

  • Has communities across 28 states
  • Independent, assisted, memory care, and short-term stays
  • Has a Lifestyle360 program
  • Specialized programs for dementia or Parkinson’s
  • Various apartment sizes
  • Room service, laundry, and concierge

Cons

Five Star Premier Residence is a wonderful caring community

“Five Star Premier Residence is a wonderful caring community. Our loved one moved there over 5 years ago and has been very happy and content. We like that Five Star is not one of those huge communities with long endless halls. It is a community where everyone knows your name and the residents enjoy each other! The staff is friendly and caring and always willing to go the extra mile to be helpful to residents and their families. Five Star loves a party and there are so many fun themed events planned every month as well as trips outside of the community. We are so glad that we chose Five Star Premiere Residence for our loved one! It is a wonderful place for her to call home, full of smiling faces and caring people.”

Wish there were more than five stars to give this place!

“I wish there were more than five stars to give this place! My mother found it on her own, and signed up before we even knew she was looking. The excellent food, service and setting are more like a hotel, but with the feel of a close knit family. The staff go above and beyond care and kindness for the residents. Even during this quarantine I feel so reassured that my mother is getting the attention and care she needs, which is a huge relief. There is a nice mix of active seniors and those who need more help, with activities appropriate to each level of ability. And you can choose to be as social or private as you wish, without pressure. I highly recommend it!”
