5 Best Martial Arts Schools in Dallas That Make Training Worth the Sweat

Instructor Expertise - I chose academies led by skilled coaches who know how to teach proper technique while keeping classes safe and beginner-friendly.

Age-Appropriate Classes - I included schools with structured programs for both kids and adults, making them a better fit for families and different skill levels.

Facility Amenities - I considered gyms with clean, well-equipped spaces, including useful features like locker rooms, open mat areas, and enough room to train comfortably.

Trial Offers - I gave extra points to schools with free trials or beginner packages, since trying a class first makes starting martial arts feel less intimidating.

You could practice kicks in the hallway, but let’s be real: your walls aren’t padded, and your family probably didn’t sign up as sparring partners.

Martial arts schools in Dallas give you coaches, mats, and a safer place to build strength, focus, and self-defense skills. Plus, it’s a much better way to burn weekend energy than reorganizing the junk room again, right?

To help you or your kid get started, I reviewed the best local spots where training feels fun, useful, and beginner-friendly. Let’s go!

How much does martial arts training cost in Dallas?

Martial arts training in Dallas usually costs between $100 and $250 per month for unlimited group classes. The final price often depends on the academy, the type of facility, and the discipline you choose.

Octagon MMA Dallas makes getting into martial arts feel less intimidating, especially if you want several training options in one place.

What stands out to me is the mix of classes available, from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Muay Thai to Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and yoga. The variety a big plus for anyone who wants to cross-train without paying extra fees.

It’s also notable that the coaching staff includes world champions who help match training to your fitness goals.

Another perk is the free seven-day trial before signing up, which is super helpful for those who are still unsure if the classes are the right fit.

A buddy of mine who trains here also mentioned how convenient it is to take a striking class, then shower up in their premium locker rooms afterward.

Just a heads up: some students said it can be hard to hear the jiu-jitsu instructor during busy classes.

Pros

  • Wide class selection
  • Yoga included for members
  • Free seven-day trial
  • World champion coaches
  • Premium locker rooms

Cons

  • Instructor can be difficult to hear

Welcomed me with integrity and honor

The team here is second to none, along with the community of people you train with. My introduction to the gym was through Chris, who manages the facility, and from day one he welcomed me with integrity and honor. It’s a blessing to learn from the great Ryan Benoit he truly meets you where you’re at while still pushing you beyond your limits to reach greatness. Check this place out ASAP if you want to get better, improve your fitness, or learn how to protect yourself and your loved ones through martial arts.

Boon Martial Arts is a great fit for anyone who wants traditional training with practical self-defense. Since 2004, they’ve taught a strong mix of Taekwondo and kickboxing to kids, teens, and adults.

The instructors here aren’t just experienced; they’re certified personal trainers who also teach confidence, discipline, and good character.

Their progress system is worth a highlight. Students are evaluated individually, so no one feels rushed or held back by a strict timeline.

I also appreciate how they accept students as young as four, so younger kids can start early while older students work on sharper technique and discipline.

The only drawback I noticed is the early afternoon schedule. School dismissal traffic can cause late arrivals.

Pros

  • Established in 2004
  • Taekwondo and kickboxing training
  • Certified personal trainers
  • Programs for kids and adults
  • Progress based on individual growth

Cons

  • Early afternoon schedule can be tricky
  • Traffic may cause missed class time

A true master of his craft

We’ve been at Premier Martial Arts for a year and it’s been one of the best decisions for our son. He’s stronger, more focused, and so much more confident. A huge part of that is Coach Jeff — a true master of his craft who strikes the perfect balance of being stern when it matters and caring at all times. Highly recommend!

An excellent place for children to learn martial arts

It’s an excellent place for children to learn martial arts. My son, Noah, has been here for almost two years, and they are incredible and wonderful teachers. They are truly patient and take their work seriously, ensuring that children learn and enjoy themselves at the same time. Thank you so much for your work

Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Saturday 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

I think Dallas Academy of Martial Arts is ideal for those who want a school with deep local roots but still prefer tailored instruction. They’ve been around since 1980, which says a lot about the trust they’ve built over the years.

Their programs are known for being flexible. Instead of following a single, strict path, instructors help students work toward personal goals such as self-defense, weight loss, or improved mental focus.

Their six-week intro package is a popular option, and this even includes a uniform and belt.

They also have a month-to-month membership setup, which is another plus if you don’t want to commit long-term right away.

If there’s a catch, it’s that they don’t accept preschoolers, so families with toddlers may need to look elsewhere.

Pros

  • Long-running local academy
  • Personalized training plans
  • Six-week intro package
  • Flexible monthly memberships

Cons

  • No preschooler programs

Address: 3641 West Northwest Hwy Ste 150

Contact: (972) 209-5449

Hours:

  • Monday to Friday 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Saturday 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

If you’re looking for a gym that welcomes different kinds of learners, My Martial Arts is worth checking out.

They offer standard martial arts classes here, but what really caught my attention is their adaptive fitness option for people with physical or developmental needs.

I also like that they’ve been committed to this for years. In fact, they launched the first adaptive program in North Texas back in 2016, which says a lot about how seriously they take safe, inclusive instruction.

Their lessons focus on Tae Kwon Do and weapons practice, giving members a chance to build coordination, discipline, and personal responsibility.

They also provide a free introductory lesson, which is useful if you want to test the teaching style first.

However, some students mentioned that the training space can feel small during busier hours.

Pros

  • Inclusive training approach
  • Adaptive fitness programs
  • Tae Kwon Do and weapons classes
  • Free introductory lesson available

Cons

  • Training space feels small

Customer Reviews

The instructors are incredible

My daughter has Down’s syndrome and she has been a student at My Martial Arts for several years. She absolutely loves the classes and all of her fellow students. The instructors are incredible. The two classes are truly the highlight of here week. If you have a child or adult with disabilities,  I truly recommend enrollment! It is life changing for all involved.

 Compassionate and detail-oriented instructor

My Martial Arts has been an instrumental part of my life for the last ten years. Mr. Rios is the most caring, compassionate, and detail oriented instructor in the business, and his curriculum is rigorous. I would highly recommend this studio for anyone hoping to gain discipline, increase fitness, or become the best version of themselves. On top of character building, they have consistently produced some of the top performing tae kwon do athletes in the state. It is definitely worth giving them a call.
