  • Teaches other aspiring architects

Cons

Thad Reeves is a co-founder of the architectural firm A. Gruppo, which specializes in residential and commercial projects in the metro Dallas area. He’s been serving as an architect for over 10 years and had pivotal roles in the construction of the Gachet Coffeeshop, Studio 204, and the Lake Brownwood Christian Retreat.

Besides being co-founder of his own firm, Thad Reeves is also currently an associate at Thomas Krahenbuhl and Truett Roberts Architects. He also teaches at the University of Texas in Arlington, inspiring other would-be architects to continue reaching for their dreams.

His impressive background and experience are what first attracted us to his work. We heard nothing but good things about him from his previous clients, who all appreciate how transparent and forward he is about project specifics.

In our experience, his office doesn’t keep you waiting around for information. As soon as you say you need something, they get back to you as soon as possible.

His office staff is among the best we’ve encountered so far. They made sure we felt welcomed during our first consultation and had all sorts of treats ready for us in the waiting room.

You can drive or take a bus to the firm; either way, you shouldn’t have trouble locating the building, since it’s visible from the main road.

Customers can meet with Thad from Monday through Friday. The firm is closed on weekends, so you may want to set aside some time during the weekdays if you want to work with this firm.

Pros

  • Specializes in green and energy-efficient designs
  • Has a LEED Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)
  • Over 10 years of experience
  • Transparent and communicative with her clients

Cons

  • Doesn’t offer services on weekends
  • Schedule is often full

If you’re looking for an architect that specializes in green, energy-efficient designs, Margine Biswas is the person you need. She specializes in office, restaurant, retail, and multifamily architectural designs.

She’s also the founder of Archiphy Architecture and Interiors.

Due to her experience and specialization, we decided to make her part of our list of best architects in the city. After all, not many architects out here can say they focus on environmentally friendly designs.

Clients love how hands-on Margine is with her projects. During our interviews, the majority of Margine’s customers appreciate how accessible and informative she is throughout the entire design and building process.

She makes sure everyone is on the same page all the time. She doesn’t fail to send progress reports to her clients when necessary.

Margine uses locally sourced materials in her project, which we absolutely adore.

Why?

Well, locally sourced essentially means projects can be done much sooner. This takes the pressure of building delays off the shoulders of business people who are in a rush to finish their commercial projects.

It also means you’ll be building and owning an establishment that’s sustainable and eco-friendly. And with sustainability becoming more of a requirement than a trend nowadays, who doesn’t want an energy-efficient architectural design?

Margine is available from Monday to Friday; however, we should warn you that her days are often full. If possible, call a few days earlier than your preferred appointment date to secure a meeting.

Pros

  • Over 35 years of experience
  • Specializes in commercial and residential designs
  • Considers client ideas and incorporates them into his designs
  • Has been featured in multiple lifestyle magazines

Cons

  • Expensive services
  • Doesn’t offer services on weekends

Mark Domiteaux has over 35 years of experience as an architect in Dallas. If you’re looking for someone with extensive knowledge about local architecture, Mark is most definitely your guy.

Critics have called his work “dramatic pieces of art” in the past. Some would even go as far as to call him the modern-day Mies.

That’s exactly why we’ve included him on our list of the best architects in the city.

We love the intricacies and nuances that you find in his designs. His insightful nature allows him to peek into the preferences and desires of his clients, and later bring them to life in his work.

Another thing we love about working with Mark is that he listens to your ideas. He’s also quite approachable when it comes to questions about his work, process, and costs for services.

It’s one of the many reasons why his clients feel comfortable working with him.

That said, due to his experience and reputation, working with Mark will cost you a pretty penny. So, make sure you have enough set aside before diving headfirst into a project.

Mark is available from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm. He doesn’t offer any weekend services, so you may want to book your appointment as early as you can to reserve a slot.

Pros

  • Studied in the best schools locally and internationally
  • Skilled at both modern and classic architecture methodologies
  • Specializes in new construction and restoration projects

Cons

  • Doesn’t offer services on weekends
  • Buses don’t pass by the office

Porter Fuqua has been preparing for a career in architecture from quite a young age, having been inspired by his family. He completed his BS Architecture Studies at Texas A&M University and his masters at the University of Texas, Arlington.

He’s also had the opportunity to study in other well-renowned institutions, such as Les Ecoles D’Art Americaines De Fontainebleau and Parsons School of Design in Paris.

His impressive educational background is one of the many reasons why we’ve included him on this list. Another is his specialization in new construction and historic preservation projects.

If you have an ancestral home that you want to preserve or restore, Porter and his team are exactly the people you need.

We’ve learned that Porter is skilled in both classic and modern methodologies, making him an effective partner to have onboard preservation and restoration projects. Whether you need 3D construction detailing or a hand-drawn conceptual sketch, Porter can undoubtedly provide it for you.

His office staff is charming and goes above and beyond to make you feel welcomed at the firm. They also seemed to have a rudimentary understanding of architecture, which allowed them to answer many of our questions while we waited for our appointment with Porter to start.

Navigating to the office is easy enough if you know how to use Google Maps. It’s more convenient if you drive there or ride a bike to the office.

Buses don’t typically go through their street, so it’s a little tricky to commute to. However, if you do choose to take a bus,  you can get off Maple Avenue and walk the rest of the way to the office.
